A New Year

Happy New Year!! I have a confession to make.  I am not very good at the practice of setting New Year’s Resolutions.  I don’t like setting myself up for failure.  If I make a resolution…I usually try to make it a simple goal that I know I can accomplish or something that I REALLY, REALLY want to do!

For 2018 I have decided to challenge myself a bit with one of my goals.  And…I extend that challenge to you!!  Sometimes it is easier to reach a goal if you have someone or a group of people holding you accountable, encouraging you, and walking the journey with you.  So, I invite you to join me in one of my goals for 2018.

A few months ago I ran across a plan that helped you read through the New Testament in six months.  I examined the guided plan closely and considered it carefully.  It seemed very attainable and I even found myself wanting to start right away.  Then I took a pause and realized it would be more realistic and exciting if I started the process at the beginning of the year.  So my goal is to (re)read through the pages of the New Testament in six months.

As a child, one of the fondest memories I have is seeing my dad read his Bible every night before he cut the lights out to go to sleep.  The image of watching your parent read the Bible makes a huge impression.  I want to have a similar impression on my children, family, church family, and friends.

I invite you to join me on this journey.  I hope to discover new things this time I read through the Gospels and letters.  I am excited about what my life experiences will help me discover this time I read the texts carefully.  You will find a link below to the plan I will be using over the next six months. I haven’t started yet, so it is not too late to get on board.  I plan to start my daily time with the scripture on Wednesday, January 3rd.  Each week, I will blog about my journey through the New Testament again. I will share things that I had forgotten, things I see again for the first time, things that seem new to me.  I will include in a blog each week questions that came up while I was reading the text: things for you to think about, too.  If you want to join this journey with me…tell me!  Shoot me an email, text, call, or tell me in person.  We can hold each other accountable as we dig into God’s word TOGETHER!!

Disclaimer:  I borrowed this plan from an internet site.  The following link takes you directly to the plan.  I will have paper copies available in the church office if you prefer.  Also, there are other 6 month plans available that arrange the readings slightly differently.  If you would prefer another link…I will be happy to point you in that direction.
