A Picture Journey

At last, the restoration of our stained glass windows has begun.  Sanctuary Glass from Burlington came this week and removed the first large window from above the choir loft (the picture of Jesus visiting the home of Mary and Martha).

As they removed the windows, it became more clear the need for work on these historical pieces of artwork.  The lead that lined the frames and between each piece of glass was literally peeling away from the glass after they removed it.  Also, we were shocked to see the extent of the corrosion of the lead on the outside of the window from up close.  These windows remain beautiful and this process of restoration will bring them back to life even more.

We have been searching through church files frantically the past few weeks trying to find as much information as we can about the process of installing the windows.  We have been trying to locate documents and minutes that tell us exactly when they were installed and any other important helpful information.  This has proven to be a difficult task.

Until today…Jason located the following newspaper article about the window in the choir loft that was removed today:

This article does not tell us when the window was installed.  Historically, the church did not dedicate part of the sanctuary until after it had been paid off.  The interesting part of this article was that the window was dedicated exactly 77 years ago today (one day after being removed).

This is an exciting time for our church family and for our community.  Thank you for your prayers and your support through this process.  Pictures really do take you on a journey…and ours is taking yet another turn!  Thanks be to God!
