What is the Bible? Small Group Study

You probably know folks who talk about how important and central and inspired the Bible is, but then butcher it with their stilted literalism and stifling interpretations. They assume the Bible says one thing and if you just get that one thing, then you’ve read it well. But the bible is a collection of stories that have endured thousands of years not because they mean one thing but because they contain many layers of meaning. In fact, the Bible is a library of stories about  loss and anger and transcendence and worry and empires and money and fear and stress and joy and doubt and grace and healing. Why wouldn't we look at ALL the different angles and perspectives and contexts and emotions and ideas contained in these stories? What if the Bible has more to teach you than you ever realized? What if there are amazing, thought provoking, deeply spiritual and incredibly practical teachings right in front of you in the Bible? And what if you are missing all this because churches and pastors have failed to teach us how to read the Bible well? Join us on Tuesdays at 6:15 pm as we open up the Bible - the way we read the bible - in a way that is beautiful, fresh, and inspired by God!

Come To The Table: A Live Last Supper

Join us on the front steps of Hood MCC for Come To The Table: A Live Last Supper from 7:00 pm – 7:30 pm on April 18 and 19, 2019. The show is filled with drama, music and the story of one of Jesus’ final meals with his disciples where together they broke bread, drank wine, and washed feet. Scenes from famous paintings, including Leonardo Da Vinci’s The Last Supper and Ford Madox Brown’s Jesus Washing Peter’s Feet, will be recreated on the front steps of our church building. Bring your camera for great living pictures! What is a Live Last Supper? Think about all the Live Nativity portrayals during the Advent and Christmas season. Now imagine such an event during the season of Lent as we prepare for Easter. One of the climactic moments for Jesus and his disciples (and for the church today!) occurs in an upper room one evening as Jesus leads his brothers and sisters in a meal of bread and wine (story found in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke) and serves them by washing their feet (story found in the Gospel of John). Our Live Last Supper will be a 25 minute portrayal of these scenes using dramatic recreations of famous paintings outside on the front steps of Hood Memorial Christian Church. Communion will be served at the conclusion of the 25 minute program (we welcome everyone to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us). Facebook Event:
