Did you know that our organ was built by one of the finest American organ builders? Did you know that Skinner organs are known for their tone and quality sounds? Did you know that the Ladies Society of the Christian Church of Dunn, NC are the ones that spear-headed the efforts to get an organ in their new sanctuary and were responsible for......

Adjusting Your Tempo

Sunday morning in worship, I encouraged you to think about the tempo of your life. Is the pace of activity in your life too fast, too slow, or just about right? It would be easy to simple think about being busy or idle, but the truth is our feelings about life have more to do with tempo at any given moment than whether we are busy or not. Sometimes I can be busy and feel energized. And, in contrast, I can be well rested but restless. If you begin paying more attention......

Pray Twice

Imagine yourself a musician.  Imagine that you take on the task of writing music to with this week’s Psalm: Psalm 13. As you read the text for Psalm 13 below…imagine that it is set to music or there is music playing while you are reading.  What would the music sound like?  What instruments do you hear? Is it loud or is it soft?  Does it have a driving beat or does it sound more like its floating? How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from......

Do You Remember?

The summer after third grade, my family rented a large van and drove across the country to California. Two stops that I can remember vividly were the Morman Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah and the Crystal Cathedral in Garden City, California. I remember hearing a demonstration in both sanctuaries showing how far the sound would carry and how crystal clear the acoustics were.  I was introduced to the majestic Morman Tabernacle choir. At the Crystal Cathedral, we saw the largest pipe organ I could imagine. We went to bookstore at the Crystal Cathedral and my family purchased several......

Sacred Place, Holy Ground

Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian; he led his flock beyond the wilderness, and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. 2 There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I must turn aside and look at this great sight, and see why the bush is not burned up.” 4 When the Lord saw that he had turned aside to see,......
