We’ve Only Just Begun
Did you know that Easter is not just one day out of the year?
On the contrary, the season of Easter (known as Eastertide) celebrated in the Christian calendar is 50 days long! Eastertide begins on Easter Sunday. It ends with the celebration of Pentecost (the birth of the church), which falls on June 4th this year. So, Easter has just started! God’s resurrecting work has just begun!
During the season of Easter, we continue to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and think about new ways we can live our lives that follow Christ. In some traditions, Lent is a time to train, teach and prepare folks for baptism, Easter Sunday is the day of baptism, and Eastertide is the season to continue to train and develop the new Christians.
The lyrics of the popular Carpenters’ song, We’ve Only Just Begun, say:
Before the risin’ sun, we fly
So many roads to choose
We’ll start out walkin’ and learn to run
(And yes, we’ve just begun)
Sharing horizons that are new to us
Watching the signs along the way
We’ve only just begun this season of Easter. We will have roads to choose. There will be horizons that are new to us. We will look for signs of where God’s vision will lead us.
What new things will you try? What new horizons in your faith will you explore? As a family of faith, how will we grow together?
