Lessons from Band Camp-Encouragement

Therefore encourage one another and build up each other, just as you are in fact doing.

1 Thessalonians 5:11

This week, I worked with some incredible young people in our community. I have been helped with Marching Band Camp at Midway High School I taught some marching basics : posture, how to stand at attention, how to stand still, how to roll your toes as you march, how to march backwards, etc. There are a lot of new marchers this year…Freshmen and Sophomores have never marched before. Juniors and Seniors haven’t marched in two years because of COVID-19. At one point early on in the week, just before they went in for a break, I stopped to give the new marchers a compliment – honestly, I cannot even remember exactly what I said or what I was commenting on. .

Because what happened next took me by surprise … the entire rest of the band erupted in applause and encouraging words for one another! It was overwhelming!

In that moment I saw a church…
Because this is what church is. It’s what church does.
The letters of the New Testament remind us to build one another up, encourages one another, erupt in to applause for one another.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:24-25

Ladles of Love (LOL)

Our church family has an amazing team to committed folks who prepare and deliver over 25 meals every Thursday to the residents of Cottondale. In addition, we visit the homebound folks within our congregation and deliver food from the DUMA Food Pantry to around 8 people in the Dunn-Erwin area that simply cannot get out of their house to the Food Pantry for pickup.

Ladles of Love is a tremendous mission opportunity for every single person connected to our church family! You can help in so many ways that will fill your heart, your head and your soul with goodness. So here’s the thing: Don’t believe the lie that you cannot help just because it’s Thursday mornings!

There is a space for you to be part of Ladles of Love. You can prepare something simple ahead of time on Tuesday or Wednesday evening from your home. You can personally deliver a snack-meal after work on Thursday to one of our homebound folks. You can even tell us what you would like to do and we will find a way to make it happen!

Contact Pastor Jason, John Johnson, or Beulah Pope to talk about ways you can help!
