Ash Wednesday this Week

Next Steps from Sunday

  • Reflect: “People will always be who you think they are, until you get to know them.” How has getting to know someone changed your thoughts and/or opinions about them? Reflect on an experience like this in your life.
  • Practice: Pray about a person or group of people that you have a low opinion of. Spend time over the next week getting to know that person or someone from that group. How might this change your opinion? What common ground might you have with them? Are you willing to change your view?
  • Practice: Think of an issue that divides people today. Make a list of some basic things these people share in common. How could this list spark productive dialogue?

Ash Wednesday Service – This Wednesday

The Lenten journey will begin this Wednesday with our Ash Wednesday service. During this service, we will be introduced to our Lenten theme “Wilderness” through an interactive and reflective worship experience. You will be asked to participate, to be creative, to engage one another, and to pray for those in the wilderness and your own journey through the wilderness. Ash Wednesday is a chance to reflect and remember our mortality and our need for a deep relationship with God. We will do so through creative worship, imposition of ashes, and remembrance at the Lord’s table.

Sanctified Art creator Lisle Ann Garrity shares this about the Wilderness :

Lent begins in the wilderness. The Spirit guides Jesus into the wilderness where he comes face to face with temptation and struggle. Yet, in his forty days of fasting, resisting, and wandering, Jesus is shaped and formed for his ministry. Similarly, through the wilderness of Lent, we are invited to surrender to the wild leadings of the Spirit. We rarely enter the wilderness willingly, but hopefully through our wandering we remember who we are and whose we are.

Sunday Evening Small Group

ITS NOT TOO LATE TO JOIN!
5:00 pm – Meet at the Church, Pastor Study on Second Floor
Childcare Available

A Sunday evening small group will meet for 6 weeks to support you in examining your life and your relationship to God. Conversation and reflection will be fueled by David Platt’s Something Needs To Change.

If you have your life, your faith, and following Christ all figured out, then this study is not for you. But who are you kidding? None of us have it all figured out! We all need to examine the life to which Christ calls us.

There is a ministry burning within your heart. God has a mission in mind for you right where your great passion meets the world’s great need.

Will you have to re-prioritize your life? You betcha!

Will you find new depths of love for yourself and others? Guaranteed!

Welcome to the adventure that has been suppressed for oh so long!
