Unity Walk

Today we have a tremendous opportunity to be the church, the body of  Christ and practice what we have been preaching.

Tonight, Thursday evening, at 6pm there will be a Unity Walk in Dunn which is being planned by young people who are part of Dunn PAL (Police Athletic League). Pastor Jason hours on the telephone with leaders in Dunn regarding a Unity Walk. Three young men who participate in Dunn PAL requested to PAL leadership to help them put on a walk for peace and unity in our community. These young men are amazing leaders of color in our community who are raising their voices and leading for a better future. PAL leadership agreed to help and is coordinating with local leaders, pastors, churches, and city leadership, including the Dunn Police Department.

Pastor Jason has spoken directly with one of these young men, with City Council Member April Gaulden, and with several pastors. This walk is about peace and unity, bringing people together across differences, about hearing the voices of people who are hurting, and about doing so with God at the center.

Every pastor from Dunn that we spoke with is participating. City council persons are participating. The mayor will attend. The Police are participating in cooperation. And Dunn PAL is supporting these 3 young men who requested the community to come together in this way.

As your pastors, we want to encourage you – our church family – to participate in one of 3 ways:

  1. Gather at Harnett Primary School at 6pm to walk with the group to Dunn City Hall for a time of listening and prayer. Pastor Jason will be there with you.
  2. Gather in our church parking lot to pray for the group walking, for lives lost and for all those hurting that they may be heard. This group may decide to walk 1 block across the street to City Hall when the larger group arrives there. Pastor Joanie will be at the church with you.
  3. Pray at home or wherever you might be Thursday evening.

We believe this is an important way that we can practice what we have preached on Sunday morning – to listen, to understand, to be pierced to our heart, to repent, and to be baptized into a new way of living.

Together, let’s be the church and represent Christ Thursday evening at 6pm.
